Aluminium Fabrications Have Many Industrial Uses

The manufacturing industry has been able to enjoy numerous benefits as a result of aluminium fabrications. The flexible nature of aluminium makes it easily fabricated into various shapes, sizes and functions. That's why the metal is a popular choice in the making of table edges, kitchen fittings, blinds, and many more.

Aluminium fabrication refers to the building of metal structures by bending, cutting, and assembling aluminium and its alloys. The flexible nature of aluminium makes it easy to weld, press, and fabricate into the desired form.

Applications of aluminium fabrication

Column casings

Aluminium fabrication allows for the metal to be structured into unique shapes that can be used to house the exterior components of buildings. For example, building columns that are unsightly can be encased in aluminium column casings in order to boost the aesthetic appeal of the building. Aluminium also allows for the surface to be coated in many different colors and finishes.

Flashings

Flashings refer to an aluminum coating that is applied on outside windows or commercial buildings. Aluminium fabrication allows for the application of the coating to keep the outside of such buildings looking clean and polished.

In roof soakers

Roof soakers are mainly used to make the walls and roofs of buildings waterproof. While the inside of the soakers can accumulate moisture, the bottom and edges of the soaker are normally made of fabricated aluminium. The aluminium can be further coated with a powder to increase water tightness on roofs and walls.

Working with alloys

The functionality of aluminium is further enhanced through the use of aluminium alloys. When aluminium is combined with other metals, it becomes more effective at corrosive resistance, weight reduction, and aesthetic appeal. Metal sheets that can be fabricated are available in many different thickness options for industrial applications.

Important aspects to consider during aluminium fabrication

During the fabrication process, there are some important factors that come into play and can affect the quality of the final product.

  • Certain types of aluminium alloys must be used in a specific timeframe or they will lose their mechanical properties. Most alloys should be used within 6 months.
  • When bending aluminium, a special tool should be used in order to avoid the formation of bending marks on the surface of the metal.

Laser cutting of aluminium demands a lot of energy. Special attention should be given to edges that are not blurred and surfaces that are splash free.
